Olympic Festival 2008

Susan Washton, Faculty Fair Chair

On Friday, April 25th, the entire Sierra Canyon School community celebrated the School’s seventh Olympic Festival on the Lower Campus. The Fair and Olympic Festival culminates a yearlong thematic program based on the Lower and Middle School students’ study of 32 countries spanning the globe. Students hosted booths representing their country, and created games and activities highlighting this year’s special emphasis on world geography, international culture, and physical education. The entire Lower Campus was transformed into an Olympic Village, thanks to the hard work of students, teachers, staff, and parent volunteers.

In addition to getting their passports stamped and trading athletic pins at booths representing other countries, students entertained their families and friends with presentations of international songs, dances, and recitations. The Upper School students’ performance of a scene from their upcoming production of Twelfth Night was enjoyed, delicious fare was consumed at an International Food Court, Olympic X Games were played, Scholarship Baskets were raffled, and students’ artwork was displayed throughout campus. Open House in the classrooms provided the opportunity for each student to guide visitors through their rooms and to demonstrate their yearlong course of study.

Approximately 5,000 people attended a highly successful event. Welcoming parents, grandparents, family members, staff, and visitors to the Fair brought the entire Sierra Canyon community together. The Olympic Festival 2008 comprised fun-filled learning at its finest! Click on the image below for photos of this event.
