Debate: Beginner

Course Description

This course is designed for students interested in the skills necessary for joining the Sierra Canyon Debate Team, but may be taken by those who are interested in finding out what this enormously beneficial program is all about. Sierra Canyon's Debate Team is one of the only high school debate teams in the country to compete in both national and international debate events throughout the year. Accolades include the Winner of the 2021 Parliamentary National Championship, and the European Parliamentary Debate Championship. The course will include training in the fundamentals of the debate format, strategy, argumentation theory and practice, and public speaking. It is also appropriate for less experienced members of the team or those new to debating and would like to continue their engagement with the program.

Should you have any questions about the session, please reach out to Mr. Jake Meany, Speech and Debate Coach, at jmeany@sierracanyonschool.org.
