Campus COVID Guidelines

Health and Safety Protocols

During fall semester 2020, Sierra Canyon successfully launched on-campus learning for Pre-K through 5th Grade students, following the Los Angeles County guidelines pertaining to waivers and the percentage of the student body allowed on campus. As the government mandates evolve, we will continue to update this page with additional information and new protocols.

Beginning January 2021, please follow all of the guidelines below to maintain the health and safety of the Sierra Canyon community.

Off-Campus Recommendations

  • We ask that families and faculty/staff adopt a COVID-19 safety and preventative mindset while off-campus and engaging in daily activities.
  • Recommendations from the CDC and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health include limiting social gatherings to outdoor venues with immediate family members or a limited group of individuals while practicing social distancing and mask-wearing, especially if indoors.
  • These inconveniences will be well worth it in the long run, as the more vigilant we are now in preventing virus transmission within our Sierra Canyon community, the less likely it is that we will have to shut down on-campus, in-person learning in the coming months.

Travel Considerations

  • We ask our school students, parents, faculty, and staff who are traveling to and/or returning from areas where coronavirus cases are at high levels, or from international locations, not to return to school or after-school enrichment activities until a 14-day period has elapsed following their return. We strongly suggest that families undergo COVID-19 testing upon their return. During this 14-day period, students may access Sierra Canyon’s Distance Learning classes until they are able to return in-person. Please click here to review the travel information we recommend.

Daily Morning Protocols

  • Parents and guardians must fill out Sierra Canyon Digital Screening Check-in for each of their children, every morning, when they attend school on campus. After completing the screening, a QR code will be sent to the parent’s mobile device, which must be shown to a school employee before the student may enter the campus. Faculty/staff use the Staff Digital Screening Check-in.
  • Parents should take the temperature of their children each morning before completing the digital check-in. Upon arrival to Sierra Canyon, a second temperature will be taken by a school employee to ensure the student does not have a reading above 100.4.
  • Parents and students should arrive to campus wearing masks. Students are required to wear face coverings at all times while on campus and will be given mask-breaks while eating during nutrition and lunch.

Access to Campus

  • Access to both campuses is limited. Parents and visitors may access campus remotely or by appointment only.
  • Everyone arriving on campus must wear a face covering.

  • Faculty and staff are required to test weekly for COVID-19, every Thursday on campus.
  • If the need arises to test a student, families should contact their healthcare provider first.
  • For information regarding free testing, please click here

Guidelines for Reporting

  • If a Parent or Guardian needs to report that a child has been infected by or exposed to COVID-19, please contact your child’s division director, who will contact Nurse Holly Calig. She then will give recommendations to the family.
  • If a faculty or staff member needs to report an infection or exposure, please contact Nurse Holly directly.
  • Consult this document for steps to take when someone is infected by or exposed to COVID-19.

Isolation and Quarantine Policies

  • If a student, faculty, or staff member needs to isolate or quarantine, this document outlines all of the steps that should be taken.

Guidelines for Face Coverings

  • As stated above in Daily Morning Protocols, parents and students should arrive on campus wearing masks. Students, faculty, and staff are required to wear face coverings at all times while on campus.
  • Click here to read this important information from the CDC regarding wearing and caring for masks.

Emergency Contact Information

  • It's critical that the School has up-to-date emergency contact information, including multiple parent contact options.
  • Please log in to the Magnus Health Portal to ensure that your information is current.
If you have any questions relating to our policies and procedures, please feel free to contact the Lower School Office or the Health Office.
