SC parent Brie Mahlstedt and daughter Jalen Samuel ’25 would like to send a big Thank You to the Sierra Canyon community this week!
Brie is a high school teacher for students with moderate/severe disabilities in Simi Valley. Recently, she and a parent of one of her students decided to put on a virtual prom for her students. They each reached out to their respective communities for support. Simi Valley resounded in a big way, as did Sierra Canyon!
Brie explains that she, Jalen, and Jalen’s godmother and SC Middle School Dean of Students, Jenny Hernandez, are grateful for the Sierra Canyon community every day. Still, the responses they got were over the top. Students, teachers, and families from SC provided lawn signs, leis, posters, corsages, and more for Brie’s students and helped make the day magical for them.
After the event, Brie shared, “Today reminded me of why our community at SC is so special! None of these people personally know my students, but they are beyond important to Jalen and I, so SC rallied behind us. We are so proud to be part of the Sierra Canyon family!”
There is no doubt that SC is just as proud to count Brie, Jalen, and Ms. Hernandez as SC family members! Congratulations to all of Ms. Malstedt’s students!
