Even on lockdown, Sierra Canyon’s own Peyton Hemann ’25 has been hard at work advocating for Alopecia patients.*
Peyton has been serving as a National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF) Teen Legislative Mentor. Her work, alongside fellow teen mentors, focuses on meeting with congresspeople and congressional staffers to urge them to support federal bills that ensure alopecia patients don’t have to pay for expensive wigs if they choose to wear them. This is a personal choice for each individual diagnosed with alopecia. However, those who wish to wear a wig or hairpiece can often find them to be extremely cost-prohibitive. This year at NAAF's Virtual Hill Day, Peyton and her peers gained Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's support from New York. She was also involved in two virtual meetings with Senator Dianne Feinstein's office, and Senator Kamala Harris's office, after meeting with both in the past. She is still working with both senators to gain their support, and we are behind her one hundred percent!
