Mr. Skrumbis Brings History to Cast of Newsies

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

It's official! Mr. Garcia's Newsies auditions were a success with the biggest turnout in recent years. The cast list has been posted, and now it's time for the newly cemented actors to embrace their roles and get to know their characters.

Many of us know the popular musical, Newsies, is based on the newsboy's strike of 1899 in New York City. While you may be a fan of the movie or the musical theatre adaptation, there is much more to the history of this strike than what has made its way into our entertainment.

Mr. Skrumbis visited Thursday's rehearsal to walk the cast through an in-depth look at the era and unions that played a part in this movement. Students learned about the outcome of the strike, and what it meant for the future of distribution and publications.

We look forward to seeing the full production! Performances will be at the Madrid Theater on Friday through Sunday, November 5, 6, and 7. Watch future issues of the Trailblazer for ticket information.
