As the Class of 2030 begins its journey through Sierra Canyon's Upper School, students recently came together for the 9th Grade Breakout, an opportunity to strengthen connections with their classmates and reflect on the year ahead.

Students kicked things off on campus with activities led by the Associated Student Body (ASB), including a Sierra Canyon-themed game of Jeopardy that tested their knowledge of the School, faculty and staff, and campus life. The Class of 2030 then headed to MB2 Entertainment in Santa Clarita, where students stepped away from their regular school-day routine to race go-karts, play games, and spend time together. The outing gave classmates an opportunity to connect in a different setting as they continue building relationships at the start of their Upper School experience.

Back on campus, the focus shifted to the year ahead. They considered what they hope to experience and accomplish during 9th Grade before putting those thoughts into letters to their future selves. "I liked having the chance to think about what I want this year to look like," said Harper A. '30. "I am looking forward to seeing how much I have grown when I open it." Sealed until next September, the letters capture who students are at the beginning of their Upper School journey and will give them an opportunity to reflect on their growth when they read their own words one year from now.

The 9th Grade Breakout gives students dedicated time early in their first year of Upper School to connect with one another while considering what they hope to make of the experience ahead. As the Class of 2030 settles into 9th Grade, the relationships formed and goals set during the Breakout will provide a foundation for the four years they will share as Upper School students.
