Trailblazer News

Upper School student Leah W. ’27 recently took the stage at the California Psychological Association’s annual conference in Sacramento, becoming the first high school student to present at the statewide gathering.

As a featured co-presenter, Leah spoke on supporting adolescents living with invisible illness, drawing from her own experience and advocacy to bring a student perspective to the conversation. Her presentation focused on the challenges young people can face while balancing a chronic condition with school, friendships, and everyday life.

Leah received a standing ovation at the conclusion of her presentation and praise for her work as a mental health advocate. She is also the founder of Teen Vision Support, a resource she created after navigating her own invisible illness and recognizing the need for a place where teens could feel understood and supported. The site offers young people living with chronic health conditions a space to share their stories, connect with others, and access resources.

By turning a personal challenge into an opportunity to support others, Leah has found a meaningful avenue for advocacy and connection. Her participation in the conference reflects Sierra Canyon’s commitment to broadening student perspectives beyond the classroom and empowering students to use their experiences, interests, and voices to make a meaningful impact in the wider world.
