Affording Sierra Canyon

Sierra Canyon School recognizes the educational value of a school community that includes students from varied economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Our Financial Aid Program supports that goal and is non-discriminatory in practice.

Sierra Canyon has a well-respected Financial Aid Program that is administered fairly, clearly communicated, and consistently applied in accordance with the principles and practices of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). The School's Financial Aid Program is designed to help support families who demonstrate financial need. School and Student Service (SSS) for Financial Aid is used in determining a family's level of need.

All information concerning financial aid submitted to Sierra Canyon School is held in the strictest confidence. Only those individuals involved in the awarding of financial aid are privy to a family's financial information.

Current Sierra Canyon Families

  1. All returning/current families applying for financial aid must submit the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) online through SSS (School and Student Services for Financial Aid) and submit all required financial aid documents below by December 15, 2017.
  2. Financial Aid awards will be sent in early February 2018 with re-enrollment contracts.
  3. Accept financial aid award within two weeks of receipt, unless otherwise noted.

Admission Applicant Families

  1. Indicated on your online application to Sierra Canyon that you are applying for financial aid.
  2. All applicant families applying for financial aid must complete the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) online and submit all required financial aid documents below to SSS (School and Student Services for Financial Aid) by February 1, 2018.
  3. Financial Aid awards will be sent with admission decision to families of accepted students only.
  4. Accept financial aid award. Deadline for acceptance is 10 days after receipt of acceptance letter, unless otherwise noted.

Required Financial Aid Application Forms

  1. Complete the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) available at www.sssbynais.orgClick here to begin the application. SSS will generate a report of family contribution (RFC) after analyzing the completed PFS. Sierra Canyon’s code is 4093.
  2. A complete, signed copy of all 2016 Personal Federal Income Tax Forms, including a copy of all W-2 forms and all accompanying schedules.
  3. If a parent/guardian owns a business, a complete, signed copy of all 2016 Business Federal Income Tax Forms and all accompanying schedules for each business owned.
  4. In addition, admission applicant families must also submit all 2017 Federal Income Tax Return and accompanying forms.
  5. A copy of all parents/guardian’ most recent paycheck(s)/pay stub(s).
  6. Bank Statements (all pages) for the most current 3 months.
  7. A Signed copy of IRS Form 4506-T with items 1-4 completed but do not date. Available here.
  8. A completed Monthly Budget Worksheet. Available here.
  9. Written explanation of any unusual circumstances that have affected your family’s financial situation this year that you would like Sierra Canyon to consider.
  10. Upon submitting your PFS, required forms may be uploaded online at on your My Documents page. An option to mail your documents will also be available, but uploading is recommended for faster receipt and processing.
  11. In case of divorce, separation or parents never married, financial information is required for BOTH parents.

Financial Aid Principles

  • Sierra Canyon School considers financial aid as the single most important vehicle to maintain an economically diverse student population.
  • Financial Aid is distributed to qualifying families of students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12 as determined by SSS.
  • Families must reapply for financial aid each year.
  • Sierra Canyon will give priority to families who have previously received aid prior to making any new commitments.
  • When a parent does not work and there are no preschool children or aging parents at home, the School assigns an annual income of $20,000 to the nonworking parent/guardian.
  • All parents, including those that have never married, are divorced or are separated, as well as stepparents, must submit all of the required financial aid documents in order for their child to be considered for financial aid.
