X-Night Rides Again!

It’s official! Last Friday, Sierra Canyon saw one of its most well attended and successful X-Nights in school history!

X-Night, one of the oldest traditions at Sierra Canyon, is an overnight event sponsored each year by the “Geek Squad” student club. Students and chaperones from the Middle and Upper Schools showed up ready to participate in friendly video game tournaments, scavenger hunts, and many other activities planned especially for this all-night experience.

This year one of the major additions to X-Night was the Fortnite Tournament, organized by Sierra Canyon Esports Team Captain, John Branca ’21, and Team Player and Geek Squad President, Jacob Bennett ’20. The tournament lasted about 3 hours and many of the new Sierra Canyon Esports Team members participated. Coming off a very successful inaugural season, Team Coach Julie Ahring tells the Trailblazer that next season the Esports team is looking forward to adding 9th Grade students to its roster.

According to chaperone, Noah Salamon, “This year’s X-Night was a HUGE success!  Great food, great fun, a Survivor scavenger hunt, and an amazing Fortnite tournament!  Congratulations to Jalen Tiffith ’23 and Rakeem Diggs ’23 for winning the tournament and showing some serious Fortnite skills!”

Another popular activity this year was the Survivor Tournament, organized by Dylan Guss ’19 and Gowri Vadmal ’20. According to Guss, “The Survivor Tournament was essentially an entire season of the show packed into one night. Gowri and I designed challenges and a scavenger-like element for advantages in the game.” The winner was Keiani Nistal ’22.

Congratulations to all our winners! If you are interested in participating in the Sierra Canyon Esports League for the upcoming season, which runs from March through May (including 9th Grade students), please email Julie Ahring for more information.
