Rosie Rios Speaks to Upper Campus Students

The Upper Campus was fortunate to welcome a very special guest to Community Time this week.

Rosie Rios, the 43rd Treasurer of the United States spoke to Sierra Canyon students about her time spent working in the Treasury Building after her appointment by President Obama beginning in May 2009 and lasting through July 2016. Ms. Rios discussed how she became an “accidental educator,” and her belief in the importance of using history to influence the future.

“It was a great pleasure to have Ms. Rios on campus,” said Lindsay Koss, Director of Grades 7-9, “The students and faculty were inspired by her work to highlight the contributions of notable women in our nation’s history through public monuments and currency. I was personally inspired to think of more ways to focus on the contributions of the less known figures who shaped history in the displays in our own classrooms on the Upper Campus.”
