8th Grade Presents Future City Project

The Future City Project starts with a question – how can we make the world a better place?

To answer, our 8th grade students researched, designed, and built cities to showcase their innovative solution to a problem for a city that will exist 100 years from now. This year’s theme for our Future City Project was Clean Water: Tap Into Tomorrow. Students were challenged to choose a threat to their city’s water supply and design a resilient system to maintain a reliable supply of clean drinking water. To meet this engineering design challenge, students completed five deliverables over several weeks
  • Project Plan
  • Virtual City
  • City Essay
  • City Model
  • City Presentation
For many weeks, students collaborated to brainstorm ideas, define their goals, manage their time, assign roles, and keep their constraints in mind while making decisions. They worked diligently before and after winter break to complete their City Model, so they could cohesively present and communicate to others about what they learned. Through our Future City Presentation in front of the Middle School, our 8th grade students celebrated their hard work and displayed how a little imagination can lead to an innovative solution in the future.
