UC ASB Invites Students to Alpaca Farm Lunch

Last Friday, October 16, the Upper School's Associated Student Body organized and hosted an Alpaca Lunch.

In hopes of establishing some semblance of the Sierra Canyon community while on Zoom, ASB has been working hard to create unique ways for students to express their school spirit every Friday–and the Alpaca Lunch certainly did not disappoint.

The idea was initially proposed by science teacher, Mr. Pflieger, who introduced the team to Meadowgate Alpacas, a farm located in Virginia that offers virtual tours and meet-and-greets with these wonderful animals.

The approximately 50 students who attended the webinar met with farm owners, Stephen and Nicole, who introduced them to their alpacas. Most notable was Pippa, a "true black" yearling; Tux, a newborn; and Padma, who struck a pose for the yearbook. Throughout the session, students learned the difference between alpacas and llamas (they are actually quite different), how the farmers care for their alpacas, and insights into the animals' unique personalities. Overall, it was a great way for the students to come together virtually, and ASB hopes to continue these Friday "Spirit Days" in the future.
