SC Math Team Continues to Break Records

The Sierra Canyon Math Team has done it again!

Math Team Coach Mr. Tillman is thrilled to announce that SIX Sierra Canyon students have been invited to the 2021 American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME)!  This unbelievable accomplishment comes after recent years in which only one Trailblazer a year was qualifying for AIME. The Mathematical Association of America determines invitations based on successful scores on the American Mathematics Competition (AMC), on which SC mathletes have been focused and training hard. Congratulations to the Trailblazers who will be competing on Wednesday, March 10:

Alex Bai ‘24
Youbin Cho ‘21
Zack Mazaheri ‘21
Phillip Miao ‘22
Wendy Wang ‘23
Shuming Zhao ‘23

We also congratulate Pierre Baza ’21 and Dylan Ochoa ’24, who missed qualifying for AIME by mere fractions of one point.

Sierra Canyon is currently sitting in 7th place in the entire State of California with one contest left to go in the California Math League. This team is on fire!  Coach Tillman remarks, “Though there seem to be a couple of schools affected by the coronavirus, most of the heavy hitters are still in it, and our team is showing consistency.”

Late-Breaking Update:  The Trailblazers also have been accepted to the Princeton University Mathematics Competition for the 3rd year in a row! This competition takes place over the week of March 20-27 with a hefty schedule for the entire team.

Let’s go, SC! Good luck, Trailblazers!
