Success for SC Mathletes in all Divisions

The Lower, Middle, and Upper School Math Teams have continued to enjoy unprecedented achievement and success. Below are the results of three contests—Mathleague, Noetic Learning, and Math Kangaroo—in which students in grades 1 through 12 participated.

A great many thanks to our MSMT Coach, Dr. Sun Lee, who led her teams through a multitude of contests this year, culminating in many of her mathletes enjoying several of these crowning accomplishments.

MATHLEAGUE CONTEST

The Mathleague Contest has versions for elementary, middle, and high schools and begins with an initial contest from which students may advance to future rounds. Below are the inspiring results from the Middle School Math Team (MSMT).

Four students—Atticus Masuzawa ‘27, Thomas McCurley ‘27, Ryan Crowther ‘27, and Chloe Crowther ‘29—advanced to the State competition. Two of them, brother and sister Chloe and Ryan Crowther, are advancing to Nationals in June.

In addition, Hannah LaChapelle ‘25, Mallika Vairavan ‘25, Shin Masada ‘26, Nikhil McGowan ‘26, and Ryan Crowther ‘27 qualified for the state championship. Shin, Nikhil, and Ryan are also advancing to Nationals in June.

Lastly, Sierra Canyon will be receiving a team trophy for our efforts in the Mathleague Contest.

NOETIC LEARNING CONTEST

In late April, 77 students in Grades 1 through 8 took part in the Noetic Learning Contest for the first time ever at Sierra Canyon. Each contest consisted of 20 questions and required students to work within 45 minutes to enter short answer questions, none of which were multiple choice. This contest is just one resource among the many that Noetic offers, all of which help students strengthen their mathematical foundations and challenge them to reach further into advanced topics. Click here to see what they have to offer.

All of our Trailblazers are commended for their participation in this rigorous contest, several distinguishing themselves relative to students across the country.

Listed below are those students receiving such recognition. “Team Winners” are students with the highest scores in their grade level. “National Honor Roll” is given to those who have scored in the top 10% across the country, and “Honorable Mention” goes to those in the top 50%. As a last note, the contest is designed for 2nd Grade and above. However, there were several intrepid 1st Grade students who took part in this, knowing full well that they would be engaging in a contest with expectations one grade level above theirs, two of whom achieved Honorable Mention.

MATH KANGAROO

Throughout the spring, students from 1st through 12th Grade took part in the Math Kangaroo competition. This contest is slightly different as it focuses on critical thinking and logic exercises over more strict calculation. There are several students who enjoyed recognition based on their performance in the contest.

These students are ranked in the National Top 20 Winners.
