Creations that Look Good Enough to Eat!

The project was fairly simple: create a five-piece food system out of clay, which would be fired in the kiln, glazed, and fired again. Each student incorporated their culture, sense of humor, and creativity into their work, and the final projects were so realistic and appetizing!

 

Students’ cultures and unique sensibilities informed the food they chose to create. One student made traditional Mexican desserts of Oreja, concha, and besos, while another made Chi Kofte. Some Trailblazers made natural forms of food, like bok choy or fruit, while others made processed food, like fruit loops and chocolate candies. A few students took on breakfast, while others leaned into comfort foods like mashed potatoes. Several recreated cafeteria food and even made their own ceramic lunch trays. One student made an entire frosted cake and used real frosting tools to shape the clay. Many classmates collaborated in small groups and created projects with more than the required five pieces. Three students worked together to create an elaborate charcuterie board including olives, a sliced baguette, dates, pickles, brie cheese, orange slices, pear slices, salami, swiss cheese, and more.

 

Each student brought vision, creativity, and their own personal taste to their food, making the results beautiful, playful, and appetizing, all at once!
