6th Grade Honors MLK Ahead of Holiday

On Friday, January 14, students on the Lower Campus were invited to watch a very special video created by students in 6th Grade. History Teacher, Leah Waxman, gave her students an assignment to create a video honoring the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his work.

Leah writes, “In addition to the research, each student picked how they wanted to participate in the video. They were given four options: a speaking role, a tech role (finding pictures, images, music for the video), an art role (creating artwork to be included in the video), or a writing role (creating their own poetry). My initial vision was that the footage would include some of the kids speaking on camera and some of the kids speaking as pictures, art, and writing are displayed (kids off-camera). The title of the video is The ABCs of Martin Luther King Jr., with A being All about MLK and Activism, B being Because of Civil Rights, and C being Creating Change. The video is split into these three sections, with the captions appearing before the speaking continues. As a class, we created three collaborative art pieces that are included in the video as well. The kids seem to have really enjoyed this process and loved seeing all their hard work come together as it was shared with the School.“

Kudos to the Class of 2028. You make us very proud!
