Performing Arts Collaboration Brings Alumnus Back to SC

Performing Arts Faculty member Mario Garcia and Sierra Canyon Alumnus Nathan Anderson '18 are in the midst of putting together the Upper Campus Spring Production of Clybourne Park, a play by Bruce Norris written as a spin-off to A Raisin in the Sun.

When Nate was still at Sierra Canyon, he was part of the production of A Raisin in the Sun staged by Mr. Garcia. The cast and their director put on an unforgettable show that resulted in an incredible bond within the group. It seemed a natural progression to bring Nate back to direct Clybourne Park.

Now that the auditions are over and the real work has begun, Mr. Garcia describes Nate as the perfect director. "He knows the story, and his ability to collaborate with students is amazing," says Mr. Garcia. 

When asked if it was strange to come back and see his old school from a teacher's perspective instead of as a student, Nate shared that at the beginning, he relied on skills he first began to hone as a Sierra Canyon Day Camp Counselor. Now that he knows his students better, he has enjoyed working on the show and helping to bring out their best performances.
