Curious Cardinals Inspire Sixth Graders

On Tuesday, September 6, the Class of 2029 took part in a day of experiential learning led by the co-founders of an organization from Stanford University, Curious Cardinals.

This organization helps younger students discover and pursue their personal interests through the help of mentorship provided by Curious Cardinals.

Sierra Canyon partnered with Curious Cardinals on workshops created to engage our 6th Grade students while fostering skills and capacities that apply to both their schoolwork and personal interests. The workshops included Entrepreneurship, Public Speaking, and Storytelling. Each centered around developing core competencies such as communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Students benefitted from a profound supporting cast. Along with the Curious Cardinals and 6th Grade faculty, Sierra Canyon alums contributed to the planning and execution of this engaging day, including Frankie M. ’22 (Stanford), Abdullah R. ’21 (USC), Aara N. ’21 (Claremont), Lindsay S. ’22 (UCLA), Rayan A. ’21 (Stanford), and Dave R. ’21 (University of Chicago).

The 6th Grade will draw strength from this day as they set their intention for the year, armed with honed problem-solving abilities. They also created greater connections with their classmates as the day fostered an overall esprit de corps within the class.

After the Parent Association meeting on Thursday morning, the two co-founders of Curious Cardinals, Audrey Wisch, and Alec Katz, also presented to parents about their organization and the inspiration they provide. Their entrepreneurial program of finding the right-fit mentor with common interests to help cultivate personal passions and academic success is a tremendously powerful model. Their presence on campus this week has provided an auspicious start to the year for our 6th Grade, an opportunity for our alums to work with current students and faculty, and our parents, who may consider this organization a potential, supportive resource.
