Diwali Celebrated on Lower Campus

Students across the Lower Campus have celebrated Diwali this week with plenty of special visitors, parent volunteers, activities, and treats.

Diwali, a five-day festival of lights, honors new beginnings, the triumph of good over evil, and light over darkness.

In the Rubin Family Library, Ms. Cohen and students read a story called Priya Dreams of Marigolds and Masala, discussed Diwali traditions and symbols, located the countries that celebrate Diwali on a map, created rangoli designs, and made the flag of India using tear art.

Parent volunteers from Kindergarten read The Diwali Gift to students, then helped them decorate diyas, a small light displayed on Diwali representing enlightenment, prosperity, knowledge, and wisdom. Students in 1st Grade were treated to a Diwali fashion show, and afterward, they made Happy Diwali cards.

On Friday morning, 2nd and 5th Grades came together in the amphitheater to hear about Diwali and to learn how it is celebrated. Students also practiced a dance, got henna tattoos, had treats, and made mandalas and diyas. In 6th Grade, students learned special dances from parent volunteers and how to properly put on a sari.

We enjoyed sharing Diwali with all of our Trailblazers! We hope all who celebrate enjoyed a meaningful holiday.
