Winter Events Bring Alumni Back Together

The annual Alumni Holiday event was held on Wednesday, December 28, at On The Thirty in Sherman Oaks.

Members of classes from 2009 to 2019 came out to enjoy great food, drinks, and company! SC alums chatted and caught up with old and new friends. Members of our faculty and staff even joined in for a fun-filled evening to reconnect with former students.

Whether they move to a different coast or stay local, our Trailblazers remain involved with our school. Community is one of Sierra Canyon's core values, and connecting and engaging with students, past and present, is extremely important to us.

On Friday, January 6, alums visited our Upper Campus for our annual Alumni Day Panel during Community Time. Our panelists included: Ashlee B. '12 (Cal Lutheran University), Jordan P. '19 (Syracuse University), Josh P. '19 (Brown University), Drew S. '18 (Occidental College), and Emilyn T. '22 (Sarah Lawrence College).

These alumni gave our 10th-12th Grade students insights into what to expect after leaving Sierra Canyon by sharing stories and advice on college life. Some topics discussed were traveling to/from college, academic loads, dealing with roommates, social life, the importance of AP credits, class size, and more! Students received great advice, such as being open-minded about course selection, balancing priorities, and staying true to themselves.

Our Alumni Day Panel is a great way to help our students prepare for the next phase of their academic and social lives. SC alums pointed out that time management is one of the essential takeaways from Sierra Canyon that has allowed them to succeed in college. SC prepared these alumni to take on the ever-changing schedules that come with being a college student. Alum Drew S. jokingly pointed out that being so prepared led her to take too many classes at once.

After the panel discussion, alums toured the Upper Campus, enjoyed lunch together in Founders Union, and were joined by former teachers, friends, and College Counselors.

Thanks to our alums for taking time out of their busy schedules to share their experiences with current SC students. We cannot wait to catch up again soon to create more memories.
