Jorden Sneed '13 Brings Alumni Heart to Basketball Games

It’s no secret that these days, the Sierra Canyon Basketball Program is one of the best-known in the nation.

If you've been back to SC for a game, you know that tickets are often hard to come by (email the Alumni Office early!), and the atmosphere is always filled with enthusiastic fans. You may have also noticed a familiar face behind the scorer's table.

Jorden Sneed is a true Trailblazer in every sense of the word. A member of the Class of 2013, Jorden's student-athlete days saw her playing a direct role in the foundation of the program she proudly voices today. She was a Girls Basketball player, Team Captain, and a member of the first Sierra Canyon Southern Section Championship team.

When she returned to SC as a faculty member in 2017, Jorden continued her involvement in the basketball program, coaching the 6th Grade Boys and Girls teams. At this time, she also began working the door at Upper School varsity games as a ticket scanner and VIP seat usher. Not long after, she was recording the stat book and operating the game clock. “Soon, my view from the front door became a view from the scorer’s table,” she says.

Around this time, Jorden began to feel that she could make an impact, particularly during the girls games. The discrepancy in attendance numbers between the girls and boys games bothered her. “I believed the girls deserved an equal amount of praise and admiration. If I couldn’t control the attendance, I knew I could control the energy! I wanted to make the girls’ game sound as exciting as it was on the court.”

As SC games began to appear on ESPN more often, she got to know the PA Announcer commissioned by SC for the televised games, and she says the rest is history. Jorden has been going strong as the voice of Trailblazer basketball now for three consecutive seasons. Today, she announces Girls JV and Varsity games and Boys Frosh-Soph, JV, and Varsity home games.

In her time at the scorer’s table, Jorden has had the opportunity to meet a handful of notable PA Announcers and Sports Broadcasters. In the summer of 2021, she also had the chance to run the clock at Pro Day for the 2021 NBA draftees of Klutch Sports Agency, where she met Lonzo Ball and Anthony Edwards.

Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations, David Sobel, loves having the chance to help SC Alumni grow their skills after graduation while breaking barriers, “Jorden has a great personality behind the microphone. I can’t think of any other high school with a female announcer, let alone one of the most popular high school teams in America. We are proud to have Jorden. There can be a lot of pressure, but she handles it with extreme grace. It never seems to get to her, and she represents Sierra Canyon well.”

When the basketball clock is not running, you will find Jorden in the 4th Grade Classroom. As a Teaching Assistant, she collaborates with Lead Teachers on classroom operations and assists with daily instruction, grading, and record-keeping. After school, she teaches Enrichment Classes on the Lower Campus and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Education. She has enjoyed watching her students evolve and finds her perspective as an elementary instructor very rewarding.

For Jorden, fostering equity and teaching leadership through sports is a life goal. When asked what her goal is for each basketball game she says it’s simple, “I hope to leave a positive example and cultivate a high-spirited and synergistic experience for people who attend both Girls and Boys Basketball games at Sierra Canyon.” We think she does just that, and we cannot think of anyone better for the job!
