Students place in French poetry recitation contest

Seven SC students participated in Cal State L.A.'s fifth annual French Poetry Recitation Contest, with four of SC's participants winning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place! Read on to learn more.


On Saturday, February 25th, Cal State LA held its 5th annual French poetry recitation contest. This year, there were 56 contestants from different private schools in the Los Angeles area. Seven highly gifted Sierra Canyon students of French IV Honors and AP French participated in this contest, which consists of reciting a French poem in French ranging from the Renaissance to the 20th century.

These students who participated are Safia Iman, Lauren Onelum, Simone Onelum, Aiyanna Epps, Thomas Neufeld, Bailey Wilson, and Litian Yang.

Four of Sierra Canyon’s contestants placed in the competition: Lauren Onelum (1st place, Level IV Honors), Simone Onelum (2nd place, Level IV Honors), Aiyana Epps (2nd place, AP French); and Litian Yang (3rd place, AP French).
