SC debate team wins big in state qualifying tournament

On Friday, February 24th and Saturday, February 25th, the SC Debate Team participated in the state qualifying tournaments at Oaks Christian School, where four team members were named as league champions!


At the state qualifying tournaments at Oaks Christian last Friday, February 24th and Saturday, February 25th, SC's Debate Team, under the instruction of Jennifer Vroom, argued their way to becoming champions.

Maddie McKay ('19) and Tessa Mouw ('19) are the league champions in Public Forum debate, and Callum Kiser ('17) and Aidan Faustina ('17) are league champions in Parliamentary debate. Both teams move on to the state tournament on Friday, April 28th in Arcadia, CA.

Also doing well: Grant Petrusson and Aathil Chaturvedi placed 6th in Parliamentary debate, and Leon "Harrison" Leeds and Sareena Khanal placed 8th in Parliamentary debate. Grant and Aathil had the highest speaker points in Parliamentary and are the first alternate team for the state competition.

Additionally, Josh Kirshner and Shenba Vairavan placed 10th in Public Forum debate. Natasha Gill came in 8th for the Lincoln Douglas debate.

State qualifying tournaments in speech will take place on Thursday, March 9th and Friday, March 10th at Cleveland High School.
