Author Stuart Gibbs visited the Lower Campus to speak to fifth and sixth grade students about everything from hippos to being smart to his writing process. Read on about Gibbs' fun-filled and informative talk with these young Trailblazers!

On Wednesday, April 12th, Stuart Gibbs spoke to the fifth and sixth grade classes in the Lower Campus amphitheater. Gibbs is the author of the FunJungle, Moon Base Alpha, and Spy School series, all of which Sierra Canyon fifth and sixth graders have read in class.

Gibbs shared information about himself via a dynamic talk and presentation of photos. Gibbs is an avid environmentalist, so he spoke extensively about animals (especially hippos and capybaras).

In addition to fun facts about himself and his work, Gibbs also provided the fifth and sixth graders with words of wisdom. “Being smart is the greatest asset you have,” Gibbs told the young Trailblazers. “You can be a secret agent, you can be an astronaut, you can be a field biologist. You can even be an author someday!”

At the end, students were given the opportunity to ask the author questions. One student asked Gibbs which of all the books he’s ever written was his favorite – to which the author replied, “That’s kind of like saying which of my kids is my favorite kid. I don’t have a favorite kid… most days.”

Thank you, Stuart Gibbs, for a fun afternoon! It was an honor to have you on campus.
