Kendra Landau (SC '19) creates Glasses for Classes

Nicole Arca
Kendra Landau (SC ‘19) took her passion for philanthropy and started Glasses for Classes, an organization that provides eyeglasses for underserved communities.

Two years ago, SC student Kendra Landau learned about a problem that many people do not often think about in their daily lives, yet it affects dozens of underserved communities: the need for eyeglass frames. “Frames are so expensive, and people cannot afford them,” Kendra explains.

Research shows that access to functioning eyeglasses is not universal. A study published in 2010 showed that 41% of homeless adults deemed eyeglasses a vital yet unmet need.

Taking her knowledge, which was informed by family friends in professions related to eye care, Kendra started Glasses for Classes. Through the organization, she provides hundreds of frames to homeless shelters and health fairs. To this day, Kendra has gathered and donated over 700 frames.

If you would like to help Kendra’s cause, boxes for glasses are located around the city of Chatsworth and in the Health Offices at Sierra Canyon School. For more information, you can also email Kendra at kendra.landau@scsstudent.org.

Thank you, Kendra, for your selfless work and dedication! We are so proud and honored to watch you grow into a kindhearted, mature Trailblazer.
