Introducing The Sierra Canyon Mechanicals

Six years, thirteen shows, countless hours of rehearsal, endless complex harmonies, Saturdays on set, sleepless nights, singing until your voice hurts, acting yourself into exhaustion – and not regretting a single minute of it.

This
pretty much sums up the life of theatre students at Sierra Canyon, like Aaron Wank and me, Madison Cole - both seniors and SC lifers. I’m so proud that Aaron’s and my commitment to theater at Sierra Canyon has inspired the creation of a new Sierra Canyon honor: The Mechanicals.  Eligibility requires participation in every performing arts production for which one is eligible, from seventh through twelfth grade.  The only former students to have met these requirements and be retroactively inducted are Miranda Lichtman (’14), Evan Wank (’15), and Zach Eisner (’17).

Over these six years, Aaron and I have played roles of all types, from nameless apostles in Jesus Christ Superstar in seventh grade, to the youthful spirits of Schroeder and Sally in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown in eighth grade, all the way to the dramatic and complex characters of Macduff and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth in our junior year.

Now taking the stage for our thirteenth and final production together, Spring Awakening, Aaron and I will be tragic lovers Melchior Gabor and Wendla Bergman. We have nothing but incredible thanks and love for the knowledge and experiences the Performing Arts Department has given us.

As we begin our college educations at Chapman University and Yale University (respectively) next year, whether we continue our careers on the stage or not, Aaron and I will both hold our SC theatre family in their hearts and always cherish our memories made on the Sierra Canyon stage.
