8th Grade Student Perspective: Shoes For Souls

I had the pleasure of donating and handing out over 1,000 pairs of shoes at the Long Beach Mission that were so generously donated by the Sierra Canyon community.

I would like to thank each and every one of you who donated to my charity, Shoes for Souls. You have all truly made a difference in people’s lives. Going to the mission was a true eye opener of how lucky I am, and how important it is to give back. I got to meet over 100 kids, adults, and seniors who were all in desperate need of proper footwear. Numerous people came up to me and could not stop saying how grateful they were for the donation.

There was one woman who really stood out to me. She was in a wheelchair, and she couldn’t grab the shoes by herself, so she asked for my help. I helped her find shoes in her sizes for over thirty minutes, and in those thirty minutes, I learned a lot about how tough her life is. No one should have to live like that, but unfortunately, tens of thousands of people do. As a community, it should be one of our biggest priorities to give back to the less fortunate. Later, she asked me who I was and why I was passing out the shoes. My response was that I am a 14-year-old from the valley who has a strong community in her corner and is looking to make a difference in our society. Again, this experience would not be possible without all of you who donated. Thank you again, your donations are greatly appreciated.
