Trailblazers Dance Into History!

When first year Head Coach Andre Chevalier looked to the 75-foot scoreboard as time began to wind down in the fourth quarter of the CIF Open Division Championship, he realized his vision had become a reality.

“This is something that nobody outside of our locker room expected,” said Chevalier. “All season long people doubted us, questioning our heart and our courage, but in the end, we proved them all wrong. I am so proud of what this team has accomplished.”

There was certainly no more significant test of what this team's true identity would become than the fourth quarter of the finals in front of 5,000 pro-Sheldon fans.  The third quarter ended with the Trailblazers leading 56-55. The Trailblazers would go on a 19-7 run in the fourth quarter to bring home the championship.

Junior Cassius Stanley led the team with 23 points and Scotty Pippen Jr. finished with 21 points and six rebounds. Ohio State bound Senior Duane Washington, Jr. poured in 14 points, while KJ Martin scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Cal-Hi Sports, the leading website for California high school sports named the Trailblazers the team of the year for 2018. In the entire history of California high school basketball, the only other team to receive this honor was Harvard-Westlake in 1993.

After all of the celebrating was complete, the Trailblazers cut down the nets at the Golden One Palace. The net, along with the Open Division Championship trophy is proudly sitting inside the trophy case inside of the Sierra Canyon Gymnasium.  The trophy case is now home to ten state championships including girls volleyball (1), football (2), girls soccer (2), boys basketball (2), and girls basketball (3).
