Lower and Upper Campus Students Shine in Latin

Sierra Canyon students are excelling in the world of Latin and their top-notch performance is being recognized throughout the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools.

On Thursday, our Lower School faculty announced the results of the National Latin Exam. Both Piper Porter ’26 and Alishba Ansari ’26 received perfect papers, with 26 students winning purple ribbons for outstanding scores, and 18 students winning certificates for above average scores. An award reception was held to recognize their achievements.

Latin students on the Upper Campus also took the National Latin Exam, and 34 students won awards for their excellent work. Results included one perfect paper by Zachary Anderson '22, 6 gold medals, 4 silver medals, 13 magna cum laude certificates, and 10 cum laude certificates.

Last weekend, Sierra Canyon's Middle and Upper School Latin students took home awards at the California Junior Classical League Convention, hosted by Menlo School in Atherton. Ten Middle and Upper School students received awards in Open Certamen (classics-themed quiz bowl), a graphic arts competition, a costume contest, and the Middle School Catapult Competition. Additional highlights of the convention included chariot competitions, a beautiful display of student artwork on Classical themes, a Latin-speaking lunch, a STEM challenge in catapult construction, and workshops and lectures given by Classics professors from Bay Area universities such as UC Berkeley and Stanford.
