5th Grades Trip to Riley's Farm

Earlier this week, the Lower School’s 5th grade students and teachers took an overnight field trip to Riley’s Farm for a Revolutionary War adventure.

The 5
th grade class is currently studying about how Americans gained their independence from Britain during the American Revolution. The trip to Riley’s Farm culminates their year-long study of Colonial America.

During this trip, the students were treated like soldiers in the reenactment of the Revolutionary War and were also given parts to play in mock trials. Along with battles, the students learned many different aspects of colonial life. During educational workshop rotations, they learned how to make candles, write with a quill and ink, weave, and experience life as a blacksmith.

Gabrielle Silk, 5th grade teacher, stated, “This is a positive experience for the students. After a year of learning in school, they finally get the chance to truly feel what it was like to be soldiers and colonial workers during such a hard period of history.”
