International Trailblazers Come Home to SC

The Sierra Canyon Homestay residences are once again bustling with excitement as students from all over the globe have made their way to Chatsworth to begin the new school year as Trailblazers.

In total, fourteen international students reside in the two homes located on Rinaldi, next to the Upper Campus. Dr. Espanol (Girls’ House) and Mr. Tillman (Boys’ House) are returning Upper School faculty members who, along with their spouses, act as guardians for these students during the school yearhelping them to plan house schedules, meals, transportation, and just about anything else their students need.

According to Mr. Tillman, one important aspect of SC’s Homestay Program is the sense of family that evolves in each of the houses. Students and guardians participate together in plenty of group activities, family dinners, and new this year, a nightly study session from 7:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. every Monday through Friday. Guohao ‘Gary’ Chen ’22 is new to Sierra Canyon this year and when asked what he found most enjoyable about his new home thus far, he answered very quickly, "Mrs. Tillman’s homemade chocolate chip cookies!"
