Faculty Spotlight: Ron Knepper, Visual Arts

Beginning in June of 2018, Ron Knepper exhibited his two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks in six shows across the country.

The works have been displayed in galleries and museums in Washington, Colorado, North Carolina, Illinois, New Mexico, and Mississippi. Working on his own pieces while teaching full classes and serving as a full-time homestay parent for the last 8 school years might seem like a lot to take on, but Knepper sees it as a full circle experience, “I continually experiment with my personal artwork nearly every day and those experiences are wonderful to share with my students. I think it really helps inspire and improve my students’ works.”

Ron Knepper joined the Sierra Canyon Visual Arts Department in 2008 after teaching at Parsons School of Design in New York. Knepper now resides in Room 201 on the Upper Campus, teaching Sculpture, Ceramics, and Drawing & Painting. When one walks into Mr. Knepper’s room, it’s clear they have entered an authentic working sculpture studio. Every year at the annual Spring Arts Festival, Middle and Upper School students proudly exhibit numerous works thoughtfully made in ‘Knep’s’ studio over weeks and months leading up to the event, all under Mr. Knepper’s guidance. However, what you might not realize is that Mr. Knepper has been working diligently on some pieces of his own as well, and this summer he had an opportunity to exhibit them all over the country.
