Making Science Fun - Rockets & Robots on Lower Campus

On Friday, grades Kindergarten through sixth got an entertaining look into the moon landing from “Captain” Bob Redman during his Rockets and Robots assembly.

Students were treated to model demonstrations of the lunar landing module and got to view several replicas of NASA rockets and equipment, all while learning how space exploration has expanded the world’s horizon.

The assembly was part of this year’s Lower School theme, “Eco-Literacy: Learning how WE CAN navigate and impact our world!”. Reaction was positive across the division. Members of the sixth grade were very impressed that Apollo 11 could land on the moon without smartphone technology, while first grader, Dominic Zaya, thought the whole thing was, “a lot like Star Wars!”.

Fourth grade lead teacher, Sandy Chan knew "Captain" Bob was perfect to demonstrate a love of science to students. “He gave the students motivation to create things for fun and in the end; the magic of learning will take place every time!” You can find videos of "Captain" Bob and instructions on how to make your own model rocket at home at www.rockets-and-robots.com.
