Student Designed Peak Week is a Hit on Both Campuses

This week, Upper Campus students participated in one of Sierra Canyon’s most beloved signature programs, known as Peak Week.

Once a year, students in grades 7-12 take part in a week of experiential learning in a wide variety of subject matters.  Peak Week courses are carefully constructed by faculty members or guests of the community who are able to impart a significant amount of knowledge and inspire our students.

One of our most endearing Peak Week offerings – The Lower School TAship - spearheaded by SC’s very own Nia Holden ’20, has grown since its introduction 3 years ago. When Holden was in Middle School, she came up with the idea to have students work as Teaching Assistants on the Lower Campus for Peak Week providing an opportunity for students to help design classroom activities for different age groups and learn what it means to take on a leadership role in the classroom. Having been a part of the first group to partake in The Lower School TAship, Nia had the unique opportunity to use her experiences as a participant as a source of influence to take on more of a managerial role this year. With the help of Faculty Advisor and Associate Head of School, Ms. Deborah Monroe, Nia and the TAship program welcomed 19 Upper Campus students into the life of the Lower Campus.

Walking around campus this week, it’s clear that programs like this are what make Sierra Canyon School one of the best private schools in Los Angeles. Whether our Upper School Teaching Assistants were helping Pre-K enjoy their tea-party or working side-by-side with students in the Art Room, the smiles on everyone's faces remind us that SC's two campuses will always equal one school.
