Jon Brooker '17 Returns to Share Experiences with Entrepreneurship Class

On Monday, November 5th, Jon Brooker ’17 spoke to Ty Nichols’ Foundations of Entrepreneurship class about his ongoing experience being a full-time University of Southern California student and full-time business owner.

Brooker currently owns and operates the specialty motion picture and television grip company, Grip Works and maintains a full load at the University of Southern California. In high school, Brooker started working at 15 and eventually began making enough to purchase equipment on Craigslist to use for starting his own company. Today his company, Grip Works, is in it’s 3rd year and he has 5 employees. He recently became the youngest member to gain admittance to his union.

Brooker recalled to the class being on trips with Coach Nichols and the rest of the basketball team while he was at SC, and when it was time for the rest of the group to relax and have free time, his focus turned back home where his business was already gaining momentum.

Brooker’s key advice to the class was that if you enjoy what you do, it won’t feel like you’re working. He also emphasized that he is constantly working to make and maintain his professional network, as contacts are currency in his business and he always assumes he may be meeting a potential client.

We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this industrial SC grad! Keep up the good work, Jon!
