8th Grade Inspires Change Through Volunteerism

Through meaningful Service Learning efforts, the Class of 2028 has discovered the profound value of giving back and its positive impact on the local community.

Sierra Canyon was proud to once again partner with Operation Gratitude in Chatsworth, a nationally recognized non-profit that, in the past 20 years, has sent almost 4 million care packages to our military and first responder communities. Before volunteering, our 8th Grade students learned about Operation Gratitude's mission and received a firsthand glimpse of its daily operations during a facility tour.

Due to size limitations, the Class of 2028 split into four groups, each assigned specific days to visit and help at this inspiring non-profit. There, students assembled care packages with brand-new donated items such as hand sanitizer, crossword puzzle books with pens, hand-knit scarves or crocheted beanies, food items, and letters. Others helped with quality control of stuffed teddy bears, known as Battalion Buddies, provided to the children of deployed personnel.

In reflecting on the impact of this meaningful outing, Eli M. shared, "It served as a reminder that small acts of kindness have the power to create a lasting connection between Sierra Canyon and the brave individuals who selflessly serve our nation. The experience was not only an opportunity for giving back but also a harmonious gesture towards those individuals who dedicate their lives to fighting and making sacrifices for our well-being every day."

Operation Gratitude has monthly Saturday assembly events; the next two are on February 10 and March 16. Learn more about how you can help. Wonderful work, 8th Grade. We are all very proud of your efforts and how you engage with the community!
