6th Grade Treks to Study at Olympic National Park

The Class of 2030 embarked on an unforgettable journey into the beauty of the outdoors, courtesy of the NatureBridge program at Olympic National Park.

Nestled in the breathtaking surroundings of the Pacific Northwest's Olympic mountains, this experience offered our 6th Grade class an enriching opportunity to immerse themselves in hands-on learning while fostering a deep connection with the natural world. Throughout their adventure, students delved into diverse ecosystems, including old-growth forests, the Elwha River, and the pristine waters of Lake Crescent. From investigating the biodiversity of ancient forests to paddling traditional canoes, every moment was a chance for exploration and discovery. They studied geology, watershed science, and marine life as they participated in the restoration efforts of the Elwha River, gaining valuable insights into environmental stewardship.

Back at the historic Rosemary Inn, a cozy retreat for reflection and relaxation after a day of exploration, students shared stories and engaged in evening programs led by NatureBridge educators, further deepening their understanding of environmental issues and Native American culture. Ryan R. shared, "It was a pretty trip where I gained more knowledge about the nature around me while also having fun singing, dancing, and bonding with my classmates." This week-long experience not only provided these Trailblazers with valuable scientific knowledge but also helped them forge meaningful connections with themselves, each other, and the world around them.

As they return home, they carry with them memories and lessons that will last a lifetime, thanks to the immersive and impactful journey to Olympic National Park.
