LS Student Council Helps Support Organization Started by SC Alum

To celebrate the Super Bowl in early February, the Student Council held their second fundraiser of the year.

Churros for Champions gave students an opportunity to support their favorite sports teams by wearing their team's jerseys. The Churros for Champions theme day raised $650 by selling Gatorade, churros, and ring pops. Being thoughtful about how to donate the money, the Student Council decided on giving back to our Sierra Canyon community by donating the funds to Play It Forward, a student led organization founded by Class of 2017 Sierra Canyon alumna, Emmi Eisner.

Play it Forward is an organization that engages students in athletics by providing PE equipment to underserved schools. Eisner started the organization when she was in 6th grade after multiple trips to Hadden School in Arleta. What she thought was going to be a single school, one-year project flourished immensely. Play It Forward has now provided 95 schools grants of brand-new PE equipment, raised over $200K, and impacted more than 65,000 students. Since leaving for Washington University at St. Louis 18 months ago, Eisner has transferred leadership of Play It Forward to the next generation of student leaders.  Despite the shift in leadership, “Kids helping Kids” remains a core value of the organization. On Wednesday, the next generation of Play it Forward spoke to the Student Council about its philosophy and ever-growing goals. Benny Eisner’23, Anya Jones ’24, Jess Tarnol ’23, Bodhi Silberling ’23 and Rachel Rubenstein ’23, delivered a clear message: “If you have a goal in mind, you can make that goal a reality."

Emmi, we applaud your vision to help others and commend you for your thoughtfulness in seizing an opportunity you felt needed attention. Thank you to the Lower School families who supported Churros for Champions and Play it Forward!
