Performing Arts

Arts

The Sierra Canyon Performing Arts Department is central to the School’s objective to educate the whole person. Students develop the skills and the discipline to be intuitive, imaginative creators and observers in all areas of their lives. The teachers of the arts are also practicing artists; they inspire and challenge their students to participate in the creative process.

The Performing Arts

Performing Arts events are also an integral part of the Sierra Canyon community. Concerts, plays and performances fill the school calendar and celebrate artistic accomplishments. Introductory Performing Arts courses are required, but many students go beyond the basic requirements. Some students are involved in many facets of the arts, while others specialize as dancers, musicians, or actors.

Each school year, the Performing Arts Department presents four professional quality and thematically advanced productions. Another annual celebration of the Performing Arts Department is an event called “One Night Only.” This special evening is a culmination of Middle and Upper School students’ yearlong work in the Dance program.

The Music Program

The Sierra Canyon Music Program is designed to instill an appreciation for and enjoyment of music through exposure to a variety of musical genres; students will experience both making music vocally and instrumentally; thereby enhancing the probability that music will be a part of a lifelong enjoyment of the arts.

Lower and Upper Campus students are taught a comprehensive, multifaceted music curriculum that encompasses a range of topics, idioms, and styles. With our diverse musical curriculum, students at all levels have the opportunity to cultivate and refine their technical and musical skills.
