Security Guard

To protect the students of Sierra Canyon School, its visitors, employees and properties from any internal or external harm, theft, vandalism or illegal entry. The Security Department works in partnership with Maintenance, Facilities, Athletics, IT, and all other departments of the school. Its members will, at times, assist those departments to facilitate the delivery of exemplary service according to the needs of the school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Check, secure, and patrol the buildings, perimeter, and entry and exit points for designated school properties
  • Observe, report, and deter violations and infractions on school campuses to include trespassing, smoking, carrying of forbidden items and any other dangerous or illegal activities
  • Warn, expel, detain, or arrest persons engaging in criminal or potentially dangerous activities on school property
  • Observe and report any irregularities or safety hazards
  • Complete security reports for serious or notable incidents or as needed
  • Possess an extensive understanding of all emergency response protocols.
  • Initiate contact with, prepare for and expedite arrival of Law Enforcement and/or Fire Department/EMS personnel as necessary
  • Scan and track all incoming visitors and issue appropriate credentials
  • Track volunteer, visitor and carpool passes and control access to campus
  • Regulate vehicle and pedestrian traffic to maintain safe and orderly flow during carpool hours and special events
  • Serve as a first responder during any emergency situations on campus
  • Clean, maintain, and service equipment as needed
  • Will be available for many evening, weekend, and holiday hours  
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of all CA Law and BSIS regulations.  
  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • High School Diploma and prior security experience
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s license with current automobile insurance coverage and a clean driving record for at least 7 years
  • Must possess a clean criminal history and pass an in-depth background check meeting requirements determined by Sierra Canyon School on a case-by-case basis.
  • Must possess sound judgement and reasoning/problem solving skills and the ability to make independent decisions
  • Must maintain a clean, tidy, and professional appearance at all times
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Excellent oral and communication skills.
  • Must speak fluent English, be personable and have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate with students, parents, school employees and visitors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • General knowledge.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Must be a quick thinker and exercise independent and sound judgment.
  • Must demonstrate the highest level of discretion and integrity.
  • Trustworthy, personable and extremely responsible.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • CPR, First Aid and AED Certification Annually.
  • Valid CA Guard Card.
  • Completion of SB 1626.
  • Tear Gas Permit.
  • Baton Permit.

Must be:
  • Able to occasionally lift/carry between 50 and 100 lbs
  • Able to occasionally push/pull between 50 and 100 lbs
  • Able to stand for very long periods of time
  • Able to physically restrain or detain individuals in the event of a physical confrontation.
  • Agile and able to stand, bend, stoop, reach, walk, run as well as climb stairs and ladders.
  • Physically and mentally capable of successfully attending and participating in all defensive tactics training to include, but not limited to, verbal confrontations, de-escalation of force, oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray, baton, Taser, firearms training and active shooter training.
