SC Students Perform with Conejo Valley Youth Orchestra

Four Sierra Canyon students and members of the Conejo Valley Youth Orchestra recently put on quite a performance!

Congratulations to Wesley Ishida '23 (Assistant Principal Violin), Hannah LaChapelle '25 (Principal 2nd Violin), Keanu Mills '29 (Cello), and Jonathan Smyrnos '24 (Viola), on their recent performance at the Fred Kavli Theater in the Bank of America Performing Arts Center.

On January 26th, the CVYO performed Tales From Russia to a very impressed and appreciative audience. According to the CVYO, "The Mighty Five, also known as the Mighty Handful, were a group of Russian composers who, in the1860's, banded together in an attempt to create a truly national school of Russian music. The wonderful music they composed is influenced by Russian tales and poetry, and is characterized by beautiful musical ideas and motifs."

The Conejo Valley Youth Orchestra was founded in 1961 with a goal of enriching the current and future lives of local youth of all ages, aspirations, and levels, through a unique musical experience, while also developing key life skills in a setting of mutual respect, learning, and fun.

Additionally, LaChapelle and Mills are part of the CVYO Volunteer Student Ambassador Program. Recently, they volunteered at the Thousand Oaks Retired Residence, which is a local hospice, where they spread holiday cheer to everyone in attendance.

The mission of the Volunteer Student Ambassador Program is to provide outreach to people in neighboring communities who cannot attend scheduled performances, to inspire and act as role models for young children and students.

Way to go, Trailblazers!
