5th Grade's Realistic Fiction Publishing Party
During the first couple months of school, 5th Grade was busy thinking about small moments in their lives that they could later write a realistic fiction story about.
From plane rides, to horseback riding, to scary moments while hiking, the Class of 2028 has tapped into its creativity to add fictional components to moments in their real lives.
To start the unit, the students learned realistic fiction-writing strategies through mini-lessons on leads, plot and character development, and descriptive settings. To finalize the narratives, students added sensory details, descriptive adjectives, and figurative language examples. Finally, in an effort to celebrate their narratives, they had a Publishing Party where they shared their stories while enjoying some special treats.
