The Lower School Spelling Bee is B-A-C-K

Ten 5th and 6th Grade finalists participated in our annual Spelling Bee on Wednesday, February 2, in the Lower School Amphitheater.

After last year’s virtual competition, it was a pleasure to have parents of contestants and 5th and 6th Grade students attend the Spelling Bee in person. Third and 4th Grade students watched the competition virtually through a Livestream. The contestants all acquitted themselves admirably, leading to over ten rounds of sensational spelling.

After one of the final rounds with Juniper Drootin '29, Sienna Brady '28, and Yianna Zaky-Papantoniou '28, Yianna was the only student to correctly spell, leading to her moving into a one-word championship round. Yianna Zaky-Papantoniou correctly spelled the championship word: conurbation. This led to a run-off for second place between Juniper and Sienna. Sienna was named our alternate after a few rounds.

Yianna, we are so proud that you will represent Sierra Canyon at the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee. Sienna Brady will be our alternate for that event.

Congratulations to all our finalists: Jake Bernstein '29, Jasper Berlinski '29, Chidi Odebunmi '29, Chloe Crowther '29, Juniper Drootin '29, Arhaan Kapoor '28, Yianna Zaky-Papantoniou '28, Sam Carpenter '28, Davis Hur '28, and Sienna Brady '28.
