Grandparents and Grand Friends Day Returns to Lower Campus

On Tuesday, November 22, Sierra Canyon Lower Campus students shared a special morning with family and friends at the 12th annual Grandparents and Grand Friends Day.

After a two-year hiatus, the Lower Campus welcomed over 600 grands. Attendees came from all over the country, some even traveling internationally to be with us.

While waiting for classroom visits, grands enjoyed a delicious breakfast as they were welcomed by Sierra Canyon Founders Howard Wang and Mick Horwitz. They heard from Head of School Jim Skrumbis and Lower School Director Kristine Theodoratos about how meaningful their participation is and the one-of-a-kind community that is Sierra Canyon.

The event featured performances by our SC Lower School Chamber Players and 4A Musicians and memorable speeches from Lifers Rachel R. '23 and Constantine T. '23. Attendees then joined their grandchildren in classrooms for crafts and games. Many students even gave their grands personal tours of the Lower Campus.

At breakfast, we asked our special guests why they are proud to be a grand. Several of their heart-warming answers are below:

I am proud to be a grand because it is like watching my own children grow up again!

I am so proud to watch my grandchildren grow as individuals, find their passions, and become good citizens. They represent our family and Sierra Canyon well. Their potential is endless.

It is so special to share life's wonderful experiences through my grandson's eyes—so full of hope, joy, and love!

I love to experience life through a child's eyes, ears, and hearts and to share love and time as they grow.

Seeing our grandchildren grow into amazing individuals with great talents and personalities is wonderful. It is a fantastic privilege to be a part of their lives.

Being a grandmother is my award for raising three daughters and surviving their teen years—in the most wonderful way. I highly recommend grandparenthood.

I am proud to be a grand because I get to watch my family grow, prosper, laugh, cry, and experience life…

You get to watch your own child raise strong amazing children. I get to participate in their lives and be there to support them.

To see the world through my grandson's eyes, to experience unconditional love and hope for the future. To know he is an extension of my family. He fills my heart, and I look at him and see joy!

It means being an example of kindness, caring, love, time…and hugs and kisses!

Listening to my grandchild tell me that the future of the world is going to be something to see.

I am proud to be a grand because they bring such joy into your life, and they love you for who you are.

I am proud to be able to see another generation grow and become their best.

We are so grateful for the time we shared with our Grands, and we can't wait to do it again next year!
