Bee-lieve and Achieve at the LS Spelling Bee

Take your mark, get ready, and let's spell! Yesterday, Sierra Canyon hosted its annual Lower School Spelling Bee.

Every year, the Spelling Bee is a highly anticipated event, showcasing students' impressive vocabulary and spelling skills. This year, 6th Grade Latin teacher Mrs. Anderson and 6th Grade English teacher Ms. Tokatyan hosted the competition in the Lower School Barn, which featured ten finalists from 5th and 6th Grade. These Trailblazers spent weeks preparing for this moment, studying word lists, and practicing pronunciation. As the finalists took their positions, the excitement in the air was palpable, and their determination was evident.

It was a pleasure to welcome the contestants' parents and 3rd–6th Grade students to the Spelling Bee. Students in 3rd and 4th Grade were especially excited to watch the competition unfold and witness what many of them can look forward to experiencing in the upcoming years. The contestants all performed admirably, leading to many rounds of sensational spelling. After moving into the one-word championship round, Amani B. '30 correctly spelled the winning word: dogmatism. He will represent Sierra Canyon at the Scripps online test, where the top five scoring students will move on to the LA County Regional Spelling Bee.

We are so proud of all of our spelling finalists: Kingston S. '30, Ty F. '30, Amani B. '30 (winner), Roman P. '30 (runner-up), Hudson F. '31, Alex S. '31, Eleanor D. '30, Braylen L. '31, Olivia M. '31, and Anthony P. '31.
