8th Grade Prepares to Thrive in Upper School

During the first week of February, 8th Grade students engaged in a dynamic discussion panel aimed at facilitating a smooth transition to Upper School.

Organized as part of Dr. Serena Hobson's Human Development course, this event provided valuable insight and advice from older peers, specifically tailored to help 8th Grade students navigate the transition to Upper School successfully. Through an interactive format, students posed questions covering various topics from academic concerns to extracurricular interests, such as Theater, Math Team, Athletics, and more.

The Upper School panelists emphasized the importance of utilizing free periods wisely for studying, completing homework, or seeking additional support from faculty, stressing that such proactive time management strategies are crucial for success in the more rigorous Upper School environment. Additionally, they addressed the social and emotional aspects of the transition, encouraging them to embrace new friendships and opportunities for growth. Building strong relationships with teachers emerged as another key theme, with panelists highlighting the benefits of seeking mentorship and support from faculty and staff.

As the panel event concluded, 8th Grade students emerged with a newfound confidence and readiness for their next stop on their Sierra Canyon journey—empowered with practical tips and a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead.
