Honors Drawing and Painting with Mr. Benz

In Yarrott Benz's Honors Drawing and Painting III class, students are finishing up an assignment entitled: 50 small detail drawings of one object.

Shown here is a portion of Liza Gill’s ’19 submission for this project. The object Liza depicts is a small bottle of Liquid Paper. In total, Liza completed 50 drawings of different aspects of her object. On the right, we see 25 of those drawings as well as an isolated sketch.

According to Gill, although Honors Drawing and Painting III is a demanding art class, Mr. Benz offers valuable critique that pushes her out of her comfort zone and helps her to refine techniques that don’t come as naturally to her. “My style has very clean-cut, precise, and sharp lines.” Although two or three of her drawings in this project are not her preferred style, Liza is glad she took others on, “it felt good to branch out and do something that I’m not comfortable with.”
