Experiential Learning

Beyond the Classroom

Central to Sierra Canyon’s mission is the belief that students should be given opportunities to investigate the world beyond the four walls of the classroom and to let that world inform the knowledge they are gaining from traditional coursework.

7th Grade Trip

Each October, the 7th grade spends a collaborative and community-building week together. Students support and cheer each other on while participating in a program designed to strengthen trust and unity. This trip proves the power of experiential learning: inspiring hearts and transforming mindsets.

8th Grade Trip

Every October, Head of School Jim Skrumbis leads our 8th grade class on a five day/four night journey through Washington, D.C. An important complement to the US History curriculum, students explore our nation’s capital, tour government buildings, and visit historical landmarks.

9th Grade Retreat

Before the school year begins, the 9th grade students participate in a three-day wilderness experience. This trip is designed to broaden students’ understanding of the natural world, solidify new and old friendships, test physical abilities, and push students a bit out of their comfort zone.
