With the opening of the Everest Family Center for the Arts on the horizon, Sierra Canyon is proud to introduce the Arts Academy: a dynamic new initiative designed to elevate arts education and provide students with expanded opportunities for artistic excellence.
The Sierra Canyon Arts Academy offers advanced after school training in the Visual and Performing Arts for students seeking deeper artistic study, conservatory-style experiences, and college or career preparation in the arts. Through rigorous coursework, mentorship, workshops, exhibitions, and major performances, students will have the opportunity to explore their passions at the highest level while continuing to thrive within Sierra Canyon’s strong academic environment.
As Sierra Canyon continues to invest in world-class arts programming and facilities, the Arts Academy represents a bold next chapter in the School’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of artists, performers, and creators.
A Distinctive Arts Experience
The Sierra Canyon Arts Academy is designed to complement and expand upon Sierra Canyon’s existing arts curriculum.
- Arts classes offered during the regular school day will continue to fulfill Sierra Canyon graduation requirements.
- Additional Arts Academy courses and workshops will take place after school and provide advanced instruction and specialized training.
- Students may pursue an Arts Academy Certificate upon graduation, recognizing their dedication and achievement in the arts.
- Courses will include graded coursework, attendance expectations, and transcript recognition.

2026-2027 Arts Academy Class Offerings
Musical Theater Workshop Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m., 1 unit ($850 per semester) – Ms. Barber, instructor
Grades 10-12, Fall 2026 semester
Grades 7-9, Spring 2027 semester
Musical Theater Workshop offers specialized training in the art and craft of musical theater. The class utilizes a combined, multi-disciplinary approach to dance, voice, and acting specific for the musical theater stage. Enrollment in Musical Theater Workshop will require independent, outside of class practice and preparation that will be part of a homework grade. Musical Theater Workshop will culminate with a Cabaret style performance at the end of the semester. No audition required.
Musical Theater Performance Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 3:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m., 1 unit ($999 per semester) – Ms. Barber, instructor
Grades 7-9, Fall 2026 semester
Grades 10-12, Spring 2027 semester
Musical Theater Performance involves the practice, rehearsal and performance as a cast member of a major musical. Placement audition is required. Enrollment in Musical Theater Performance will require independent, outside of class practice and preparation that will be part of a homework grade. Additional rehearsals/classes may be scheduled closer to the date of the performance. Musical Theater Performance will culminate in a main stage performance of the musical with full staging and live orchestra.
Stepping Arts (Step Dance) Mondays, 3:15 p.m. – 4:15 p.m., .5 unit ($695 per semester) – Mr. Anthony, instructor
Grades 7-12
Stepping Arts (Step Dance) is rooted in African and African American cultural traditions, utilizing the body as an instrument to create complex rhythms through clapping, stomping, vocalization, and synchronized movement. Students develop musicality, coordination, leadership, teamwork, creativity, and stage presence while learning the cultural and artistic foundations of this dynamic performance tradition.
Coursework includes rhythm and technique training, cadence development, choreography, performance preparation, leadership opportunities, and public performances throughout the school year. Each semester features new artistic themes, choreography, and performance experiences designed to foster growth, confidence, and collaboration.
No prior experience is necessary, and students of all backgrounds and experience levels are welcome to participate.
Music Individual Instruction Meets once a week after school, 45-minute lessons, Mondays – Thursdays, ($999 per semester) – Mr. Sampson and additional instructors
Grades 7-12
Individual Instruction provides one-to-one instruction in all musical styles on a variety of musical instruments and voice. Lessons available on drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, winds and strings. Consult with Department Chair about teacher availability. Attendance taken. Regular (daily) practice expected and will be included in grade. Lessons will culminate in an end of semester performance showcase opportunity.
